ABA is located on Thompson Pass ; at the Worthington Glacier, twenty-nine and a half miles from the town of Valdez . This places us away from the marine affect on the weather that plague many other Alaskan operations allowing for more flyable days. Our avereage public season experiences only seven days in which we do not fly, by far the best record of any Alaskan operation. Our position places us in the best area for abundant snowfall and frequent clear weather. At ABA we focus our energies on getting you the best runs available for the lowest possible cost which is why our low frills base area attracts locals and enthusiasts from around the world year after year. You will enjoy a full day adventure deep into the Chugach Range . A full day begins in the morning and consists of an average of six runs and more than 20,000 vertical feet. You may choose instead to join us for the afternoon half-day session for three runs in the incredible terrain on the many ridges and peaks surrounding our base. You may always choose to continue to ski or board additional runs for just 95.00 per run. Only at ABA can you decide to take just one run to explore the dramatic peaks and incredible runs that you can see around our base, some of these runs are our longest at more than five thousand vertical feet of skiing and boarding.
Our guide team will lead you and your group safely by teaching you of the hazards so that you may avoid them while exploring the beautiful Chugach Range . Your time with us will begin with a detailed safety talk, which covers traveling in glacial and avalanche terrain, loading and unloading the helicopter, and working as a team to aid in a rescue situation. Our guide team has developed over the years to include many of the people who began the sport of heli skiing in the Chugach Range . Our guides have extensive experience in our mountains locally as well as on big mountain destinations around the world. Some have worked as year round guides for more than ten years, others are avalanche consultants for the film and construction industries. Many of our guides have worked as avalanche control blasters at world-class ski resorts including Squaw Valley and Bridger Bowl. Relax and enjoy, you are in the skilled hands of Emergency Medical Technicians, Avalanche Forecasters, and high angle rescue professionals. Our guides have been hand selected for their skills and attitude, if they are not fun to be with, they probably guide for someone else.
